Matt Kennicott - CEO

Matt Kennicott is the CEO and Co-founder of The Plug. His journey into the cannabis industry began as a Partner and Co-founder of Weeds. Cannabis Consulting, where he channeled his passion for cannabis into helping clients navigate licensing and compliance issues. His expertise in cannabis policy in New Mexico runs deep, dating back to his involvement in the Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act. During the 2007 legislature, Matt served as a chief of staff in the Roundhouse during the debates and eventual passage of this significant legislation, which earned the signature of then-Governor Bill Richardson.

Kennicott was the Director of Policy and Planning under former New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez. In this capacity, he contributed to the expansion of medical cannabis licensing. He also held the position of Director of External Affairs for the State's Human Services Department, where he was instrumental in assisting with Medicaid expansion and implementing Obamacare. Matt was a driving force behind the formation and governance of the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange. He also managed all external and internal communications for the agency and coordinated legislative policy.

Throughout his career, Matt's influence extended beyond New Mexico. He served as a director of communications for various state agencies and traveled nationwide, imparting his knowledge to and training political activists. His political acumen transcended different levels of government, from local city council races to national presidential campaigns.

Matt's journey led him to assume the Vice President of Communications role at one of the state's most esteemed public affairs and strategic communications firms, where he predominantly focused on healthcare campaigns.

Matt co-owns, with his partner Veronica, High Maintenance, a woman-owned micro-cultivation and micro-manufacturing business in Socorro, NM. His unique blend of experiences and expertise continues to shape his contributions to the cannabis industry and beyond.
